Nonprofit You Should Know: RMC Foundation

Casey Wittekind

At Neon, we have the opportunity to work with thousands of nonprofits who do amazing work. But each month we spotlight one of our clients doing something particularly exciting!

This month, we’re honored to spotlight Ready Mixed Concrete (RMC) Research and Education Foundation— an organization dedicated to improving the concrete industry by funding research and education. They have been a Neon client since early in 2017. We’d like to share their beautiful Inspire Website with you.

The RMC Foundation used Neon's Inspire Website Builder to create their new nonprofit website's homepage.

What they Do

RMC Research and Education Foundation was founded in 1991, and they just celebrated their 25th anniversary last year. Originally the organization was founded to provide funding on an as-needed basis for industry specific needs, such as the purchase of lab equipment and educational program development. The Foundation was revitalized in 2001 when industry leadership decided to build an endowment that would provide funding for concrete industry research and educational program development in perpetuity.

Why it Matters

Concrete is a topic that impacts every person, with concrete being used in every community in America. The RMC Research and Education Foundations works on 3 importants goals:

  1. Fund research and education programs
  2. Encourage sustainable development
  3. Improve concrete as an application

With thousands of donors, they have funded over $15 million dollars in projects and education programs that work towards their goals.

The Vision of the RMC Research & Education Foundation is to be a Lasting Resource for Increasing Quality, Professionalism and Sustainability in the Ready Mixed Concrete Industry by Funding High Quality, High Value, Non-Proprietary Research and Education Programs. The Foundation was started in 1991 and was initially established to provide as-needed funding for specific industry needs, such as the purchase of lab equipment and educational program development. The Foundation was revitalized in 2001 when industry leadership decided to build an endowment that would provide funding for concrete industry research and educational program development in perpetuity.

How they Do It

As a very small staff of just 2 people, they are tasked with every responsibility of making the organization run, rom managing the fundraising to awarding the grants. Working in 10 year old Filemaker system that was no longer supported and wasn’t meeting their needs. At the same time, they had an old, outdated website that wasn’t meeting the needs of their organization or their donors.

As a small staff of 2 people, RMC needed a nonprofit CRM system designed for efficiency.

As an organization fortunate enough to have millions of dollars in pledges, finding a new system became critical. Jennifer LeFevre, Senior Director, Communications & Programs, explains, “We needed to find a new system that was easy to administer and that would allow us to track current and new pledges, as well as other donations. We were also in the market for a new website and the fact that Neon offered a package where the website and database were integrated offered a tremendous benefit to us.”

With the decision to switch to a Neon Inspire Website as well, RMC Research and Education Foundation, invested in an Inspire Package so the Neon Web Design team could set the style and assist them with building out the most important pages on their website. From there, with training and ongoing assistance, Jennifer has effectively managed her new website. She describes it as “Really exciting, I’m out of my comfort zone, and it’s a growing process, but I’m excited to learn to do it.”

Curious what their website looked like before Neon Inspire? Here’s the before version:

Advice to other Nonprofits

When asked her advice to other nonprofits, Jennifer says nonprofits should do their research. With so many software options out there, it is great to have choices for one that will fit your needs, but it can be overwhelming to choose. Jennifer continues, “The demo we received answered many of our questions and we liked how Neon would be able to integrate and replace several functions that we had previously used independently of one another (email communications, online fundraising, credit card processing, etc.). Both the initial and ongoing training and online resources have also been terrific! My boss and I definitely feel we made the right decision in going with Neon!”

As Scott Woodfill, the Neon Sales Consultant who worked with RMC Research and Education Foundation explains, “Jennifer and the RMC Research and Education Foundation are excellent clients. They had clear and concise ideas on the features they needed and had done a wonderful job on their own research. During our conversations their patience and willingness to learn and ask questions I believe set them up for success as they began their implementation process moving forward.”
